Parent
Information Page

Young people are often presented with
the opportunity to use alcohol and drugs. Knowing this
can make a parent feel overwhelmed and helpless to the
forces of substance use and abuse. There are many things
parents can do regarding the use of mind and mood
altering chemicals by their child.
The most effective way to prevent your
child's use or determine the frequency of use is to
simply talk to him or her. Many parents are afraid to
discuss the issue because they might not have correct
knowledge, may appear too rigid, or "uncool." Talk
to your children about alcohol and drugs; the
earlier, the better. Discussing the subject lets your
child know you are interested and willing to talk and listen.
